Two-factor authentication (2FA)

Enable 2FA on your user for extra protection of accounting and bank data.

Written by Nicki Elgaard

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra step at login (typically a one-time code from an authenticator app). We recommend it for all users — especially admins and anyone with bank/payment access.

Before you start

  • Phone with an authenticator app (e.g. Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password)

  • Ability to sign in to Payfriend

Steps

1. Open profile / security

Click your user/profile and find Security or Two-factor.

2. Enable 2FA

Follow the guide: scan the QR code with the authenticator app.

3. Save backup codes

If shown, store backup codes safely (password manager). They’re your recovery if the phone is lost.

4. Confirm with a code

Enter the first one-time code to lock the setting.

5. Sign out and back in (test)

Confirm you’re asked for the code.

Check that it worked

  • 2FA shows “enabled” on the profile

  • New login requires a code

  • Backup codes stored
